This summer festival for the Uchigo area creates a summertime scene that has been enjoyed here since the days of the Joban coalmines.
The Kaiten-Yagura is a rotating scaffold designed to look like Natuional Treasure Shiramizu Amida Temple, Fukushima's one national treasure. The old scaffold was rebuilt in 2016 and is 13 meters high and 13 meters across. It is operated through both electrical power and human labor. During the festival, which is held August 13 to 15, the Kaiten-Yagura is illuminated with lights and lanterns and dancers perform around it in multiple circles.
